UserTesting.com Review

Are you looking for ways to generate some side income from home?

Maybe you have heard about this platform and are looking for some more information.  Please read on because in my UserTesting.com review I will explain what this program is all about and you can decide if you think it is something you might like to do to make money online.

What is UserTesting.com?

This is a site that pays you for looking at websites and Apps, completing some tasks and then recording the experience you had.  This is done by using their screen recorder software so they can watch you view the site, as though looking ‘over your shoulder.’

While you are on the website,  you provide candid feedback via video and audio about your experience so they can gather information such as whether the site is easy to use or confusing in any way.

Who is it For?

Anyone who would like to make a bit of side income.  Ideally, it is best if you have had some experience in technology or some kind of upper management or if you are or have been a small business owner.  However, there are also some tests that are suitable for someone in any demographic to take.

Additional requirements to participate are:

  • A Mac, a PC, a microphone and internet connection.  For testers of mobile apps, an iphone, ipad, Android tablet or Android phone
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be able to download their testing software
  • Have the ability to speak your thoughts clearly aloud in English

My Review of UserTesting.com

UserTesting.com is a platform that is free to join and in which you get paid $10, via PayPal, to evaluate websites.

Usability testing is a process that companies use to determine if their websites are user-friendly and operating efficiently. Well-known companies use this service such as eBay, Zendesk, Facebook, Dropbox, and Wikipedia.

Website owners need to know if their websites are operating efficiently and what visitors think when they experience the site for the first time.  As a site tester, you will provide genuine feedback based on your own visit to a website.  Your reaction and comments are recorded using their software and each task takes about 10 -20 minutes to complete.

There is also the opportunity to make up to $60 for a live conversation with a customer.  This is done through a video conference call which is scheduled between you and the customer at a pre-arranged date and time.

How do I join

Joining is easy and free.  You need to enter your demographic details and take a sample test.  If approved, you will start receiving emails about test opportunities.

  • Memory of at least 1 GB of total RAM and 600MB of available RAM
  • Browser – Chrome 49, Safari 8 or Firefox 45

PC:

  • Operating system – Windows 7, 8 or 10
  • Free disk space of at least 7 GB
  • Memory of at least 1 GB of total RAM and 600MB of available RAM

Mobile Test Device requirements:

  • Memory of at least 400MB and 20% battery life when trying to take a test

iOS:

  • Operating system of iOS 12 or higher
  • Memory of at least 400MB and 20% battery life when trying to take a test

Also required is a headset/microphone.  There is a link on their website to an inexpensive headset.

Finally, you will have to download their screen recorder software.

How do the tests work

When you log in, you will receive what is called a “screener” which is a series of questions that determine if you are eligible to take a test.  Some of these questions are very specific and testers have complained that it can take 15 to 20 minutes to answer all the screener questions, only to find that you do not qualify to take the test.

Most people receive about 1 or 2 tests a week and they are constantly receiving new tests so you could receive one any time, any day.

It is recommended that you stay logged onto your dashboard so that you will hear the sound every time a new test comes in.

More ways to maximize your chances of receiving new tests are:

  • Aim for a 5-star rating (testers are rated by the customer on a 5-star scale ranging from ‘not helpful’ to ‘extremely helpful’)
  • Pay attention to a blue highlighted section on your dashboard.  You will see that you can take surveys there that will help you qualify to take more tests
  • Make sure you keep your personal profile up-to-date

How much can you make

Again, this depends on how many tests you get based on your demographic but it is definitely just a bit of side income.  Some people report making up to $1500 a year which isn’t much but could still be helpful if you are on a tight budget.

Payment is made through your PayPal account 7 days after completion of a website or app test.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Authentic platform
  • Easy to join
  • Fun side income

Cons:

  • Sporadic income at best
  • May need to invest in headset
  • Lots of competition

Final Comments

On the face of it, this seems like a good idea that is also kind of fun.  You don’t have to pay to join, though you may have some investment such as having to purchase the headset microphone.

However, much depends on if you qualify to take a test.  There is no way to know in advance if you will qualify to take a test because it just depends on what demographic the company offering the test is looking for.

Therefore, I would not suggest you rely on this platform to make any kind of regular income.  It is not a scam, but it is a gamble as to whether your demographic will be in demand at any given time.  It is also frustrating that you may spend a lot of your time answering those “screener” questions only to find that you do not qualify to take the test.

Check this site frequently because the first time I tried to review this platform, they were not accepting any more reviewers.  This tells me it is a popular site which means of course that there is a lot of competition for the tests.

My final word on UserTesting.com is I would say go ahead and give it a try if it is something that appeals to you but do not expect any kind of regular income.  This is not a scam, but you should understand that there is a lot of competition for these tests, so just relax and have fun with it.

Although doing this type of online work might be fun for a while, you may want to consider putting your effort into building an online business that, over time, could create greater income for you than doing user testing…

What We Do

We also have a lot of fun and have the potential to earn so much more by doing Affiliate Marketing.  The platform we use is authentic, genuine and real.  You even have the ability to go in and check it all out for FREE.

Here is Philip’s review of our number one recommended program to generate an online income.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review.  Have you been a tester for this company yourself?  We would all love to read about your experience if you have and would appreciate any comments you may have.

Good luck with all your online endeavors and please check back frequently for more reviews and helpful articles on online money-making opportunities.
